3-Day Underarm Detox: A DIY Mask Recipe

Whether you’re already using a natural deodorant or just looking to promote healthy lymphatic function, we have a three-day detox that will keep your underarms fresh.

How do you know you need to detox?

01.

you use traditional antiperspirant/deodorant on a daily basis (we’ll talk about this next)

02.

you feel more ‘fragrant’ than usual

03.

you want to boost the effectiveness of your natural deodorant or go off of them altogether

You’ve probably heard the negative hype around the use of aluminum in standard antiperspirants, but the transition to the alternatives can, quite literally, stink. We’ve all had those few awkward days trying to transition to natural deodorants only to feel totally embarrassed and revert back to your old stick- we totally get it. The build-up of toxins from a lifetime of suppressed detox is lurking just under the surface, which is why a detox is the perfect way to start your transition with a ‘clean slate’.

In case you’ve missed it… What’s the problem with your normal deodorant routine? The aluminum compounds found in antiperspirants reduce wetness by plugging the sweat ducts in your underarm. As much as we want to avoid underarm wetness, it is a key way for our bodies to detox - and it’s no coincidence that your primary lymph nodes are in the same area. In fact, the majority of breast cancers develop in the upper outer quadrant of the breast because that section is closest to the underarms.

Metals, like aluminum, have been linked to degenerative neurological conditions, like Alzheimer’s. Aluminum in traditional deodorants also minimizes body odor by blocking bacteria growth. This sounds great, but there are plenty of natural alternatives that aren’t linked to illnesses.

let’s get to it...

Mixing and Using Your Detox Mask

notes
Do not use deodorant - even a natural one - on your detox days. Repeat as often as needed. Stay super hydrated for the best results. Don’t be afraid to sweat! Saunas, workouts, etc will help push out the standing toxins. Try a lymphatic massage to really get your lymphatic system moving.

01.
Mix Your Mask

Mix one part activated charcoal and one part bentonite clay. You can mix the dry ingredients in advance and store it in a glass jar in a dry area.

02.
Prepare

Prepare the skin by gently wiping a clean underarm with apple cider vinegar.
Mix 2 tsp. of your dry mix with 1 tsp. water.

03.
Apply

Apply a thin layer across the underarm area and let sit.

day 1: Let sit for 5 minutes
day 2: Let sit for 7 minutes
day 3: Let sit for 10 minutes

04.
Rinse

Rinse the mask away with warm water. Pat dry and gently dab witch hazel on the underarm area.

about the
ingredients

Apple Cider Vinegar

This acidic miracle liquid helps restore pH balance so your skin can better absorb.

Bentonite Clay

Made from volcanic ash, this clay’s negative charge helps to pull out the positively-charged toxins and heavy metals. It’s widely used in face masks to reduce impurities and draw out lurking toxins.

Activated Charcoal

Charcoal is a porous material that can absorb 1000x its weight in moisture. In addition to water, it purifies by binding itself to bacteria and toxins.

Witch Hazel

Anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, witch hazel helps to calm the skin and prevent future bacteria in the underarm area. Be sure to select an alcohol-free variety.
